Mooyah

Wandering past Mooyah, I was persuaded in by a friendly waitress lying in wait with menus and a friendly holler. She lead me in up to the till, where she gave me one of those menus. But before I had a chance to focus my eyes, she started a well-versed and knowledgeable rundown of what was on it, including several recommendations. I ordered the double beef patty (you can opt for single or double in all the burgers) beef bacon cheeseburger. Sadly the sweet potato fries were off the menu, so I took her suggestion of cheese fries. I also ordered a kid’s sized vanilla milkshake (which turned out to be a regular size), and switched to chocolate, after she hinted that it was a better plan. I paid, she gave me a cute little buzzer that would tell me when the food was ready, led me to the table, and then suggested some condiments from a large selection that I should try. Then she headed straight back out into the wilderness of the mall like a hunter, looking for new customers. Unsurprising, considering the company is originally from Texas, the venue had a distinct American diner ambience about it. But there was also something quite fun and new about the place too, from the massive chalkboard on one wall scrawled with greetings from customers and moo-related puns, to the TV screens, with a ‘now playing’ widget running along the bottom. The food was ready at the counter, and despite having been out on her hunting mission, somehow the server managed to notice this and brought it over to me before the buzzer rung. The burger was not incredible, and it definitely represented a fast-food experience due to the processed style yellow American cheese, slightly over-sweet bun (even if it was fresh and fluffy from having been baked in-house) and general sensation of eating something a bit greasy. However, the burger was still enjoyable, greedy and satisfying, with decent tasting beef and plenty of salad. The fries were obviously normal, not cheesy, as recommended, but the server took them away and had them squirted with some melted cheese goo. On reflection, I wish she hadn’t, since this processed and plastic-tasting cheese took something away from the pleasure of the freshly made and crisp chips. As for the milkshake, it was so thick it was served with a spoon and no straw. But the flavour was quite a disorientating experience as it actually tasted of chocolate. Mooyah should not be Dubai’s number one choice for a burger, but it’s not a bad bet for a good post-cinema burger with the kids. The bill (for one) 1x mooyah cheeseburger Dhs35 1x cheese fries Dhs18 1x little moo shake Dhs18 Total (excluding service) Dhs71
