The Ashiana at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers has been a Dubai institution for years. In its new home, on the lobby level of the Sheraton Dubai Hotel & Towers, it seems to be as popular as ever - particularly with reviewers of other magazines that seem to find it fine. On every occasion we have dined there I have clearly been unlucky. Unpleasant chicken, bland appetisers and a vegetable jalfrezi that I try hard to forget. At least during Ramadan (when we visited) the live band weren’t drowning out any possibility of conversation. Restaurant Manager Aditya Oberoi works hard to make up for the failings of the kitchen with a well-trained team and an enthusiastic willingness to replace unsatisfactory dishes with, er, other unsatisfactory dishes. The Ashiana also continues the historic Dubai tradition, thankfully abandoned in almost every other hotel restaurant, of unobtrusively adding a massive 20% surcharge to the menu prices.
