From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2011The Assia in Wok restaurant, which overlooks the ice rink in the enormous Dubai Mall, is essentially an upmarket version of the Assia in Wok counters that can be found in the food courts of other Dubai malls, including a second outlet in Dubai Mall itself. The restaurant seeks to offer a pan-Asian selection, and promises the cuisines of China, Japan, Korea and even Mongolia, while the interior, despite aiming its design cues higher than food court level, still very much says ‘fast food’. The menu proves to be fairly standard Asian fare, despite the claims of multiculturalism. A prawn vermicelli is functional, but nothing to get excited about, while a red Thai chicken curry will elict a similarly non-committal response. Hopefully unlike us, you won't be perturbed throughout by the restaurant’s name. Is it supposed to say ‘Asia’? Does it really matter? The serving staff aren't sure anyway. A passable cheesecake should be y our choice to finish off the meal, but overall we were unsure why you’d pay a premium to eat homogeneous Asian mall fare in here rather than the takeaway stand downstairs.
