Offering 360-degree panoramic views of the city of Dubai and the Arabian Sea, the Warwick Hotel Dubai’s latest bar and restaurant, World on 44, located on the 44th floor, presents a blend of French and South American flavours. The elegant design, soft, high bar stools and comfy lounge chairs offer an intimate atmosphere to enjoy an evening drink. However, the bar itself was lacking in any sort of real atmosphere on our visit. Arriving on a Friday evening at 10pm, we were confronted with silence and an empty venue. A team of staff greeted us excitedly. Choosing a seat at the bar, we asked the staff for drink recommendations. The nervous-looking barman instead offered to read from the menu’s list of drinks. That menu initially seemed promising, with a range of classic mixed drink offerings with a few modern twists. Sticking to the timeless favourites, we chose classic popular mixed drinks. However, what we were presented with was far from the classic recipe. The drink was overloaded with ice and lacked in the appropriate ingredients. After three attempts at the waiter making our drinks, we decided to admit defeat and stick with the botched attempt. While the staff don’t exactly have the skills of Tom Cruise in the 1988 film Cocktail they do get an ‘A’ for effort. Several members tried their hardest present us with our order, but somehow they weren’t able to follow through. With a little more training, the bar could be a nice weekend spot. Aside from the drinks fiasco, the menu itself is large and spacious and can seat up to 200 guests in the restaurant and bar area. While the menu itself is stylish and chic, it lacks character, with the actual bar area appearing more like a hotel lobby with low seating, bright lighting and carpeted flooring. The large venue appeared cold with the lack of people and as the staff focused their attention on their only guests, we started to feel slightly awkward and uncomfortable. While there was background music playing, it was much too low. Livelier lounge music would be needed to give the venue a lease of life. Depending on which area of the bar you choose to sit in, guests can catch glimpses of the Burj Khalifa. Due to the bright lights though, it can actually be difficult to enjoy much more of the view at night due to the reflections in the window.
