It is perhaps the biggest indictment of an Indian restaurant’s lack of all-round quality when the standard of Chinese food is higher than that of its own cuisine. That is not to say the Chinese dishes at Royal Kebab are bad; quite the opposite, in fact. The chicken chilli noodles and ‘non-veg’ (chicken) spring rolls can stand up against food from most Media City outlets. But you don’t visit an Indian restaurant for the Chinese food. Indian curries at Royal Kebab don’t lack flavour, but they are cooked with poor-quality meat served in sauces that are too oily. No complaints about the value – a filling meal for two can be had for way under Dhs100 – and service is willing, but meals take an age to arrive, even when the restaurant is empty. Good for a cheap curry or a decent Chinese, but little else.
