Want somewhere nicer than a mall-based eatery, but can’t quite stretch to a Michelin-starred meal? Step forward Grand Grill, which sits mid-way between the two and serves up a feast of steaks in a great atmosphere. The restaurant’s leather-clad interior and open kitchen are welcoming, fuelling a chilled-out vibe that’s reinforced by the lively chatter of the clientele. It certainly seems popular: on our last mid-week visit the place was packed, which may explain why the service, while enthusiastic, was a bit hit or miss (it took the waiter three attempts to bring the drinks we asked for). The menu itself offers typical steakhouse fare: prime Australian and South African cuts, seafood and ribs, and although the prices aren’t cheap, the quality makes it worth splashing out. The steaks are great – flavoursome and nicely cooked – and we adore the gorgeously crispy onion rings. Just make sure you save room for one of the hefty puddings.
